Bobber Chopper
What are the key differences between a chopper and a bobber?
Way back before companies manufactured aftermarket goodies, to make a bike faster, people would start taking weight off. Some parts like rear fenders for example, were cut down rather than removed, hence "Bobbed". So a Bobber is a bike that's been reduced in weight, removing or cutting parts. Stock Frame.
Later, people started new sports with their bikes, but as the factory wasn't making specialty bikes yet, people started chopping up the frames for various things. Hill climbing, for instance, where they would cut the back of the frame and lengthen the wheelbase for more traction. Like all street vehicles, the day came when bikes were modified to look radical. So, chop the neck, angle it out, find donor metal from the suspension of a particular Ford, weld and you have the first extended front springer front ends. The only practical use for these that I know of is that they are incredibly stable at high speeds. After that, there came all kinds of reasons to put axe to frame and personalize these machines. Hence, chopper.
I've done both to mine, but when asked, it's just my bike, an Ironhead.
A reason some of us will never accept these ready made framed bikes that are styled after choppers, is because they're not. Call them whatever you want, but they're not choppers.
