2 stroke engine help?

I have a 50 cc yamaha bws 50 scooter that i just purchased. The scooter had a pitch black plug in the scooter when i purchased it so i pulled the plug and replaced it. Now after changing the plug the scooter will only run when i give it gas while kicking it over at the same time?????????????? Any ideas what this may be ? The scooter started first kick without gas before i changed the plug
It's a 2 stroke machine, yes? Your plug is always gonna be "Pitch Black". Just how black depends on your oil/fuel mix ratio. If you have the old plug still, just check the "Gap" with the new one to ensure they are the same size. If you haven't got "Feeler gauges" then try using credit-cards or similar to get it right. "Bounce" the plug on the bench to make it smaller and use grips/pliers to "Bend" it out and make the gap bigger. NEVER pry the gap open with a screwdriver using the centre electrode as a pivot!
Getting the gap right is essential for easy starting and economical operation. You only have a small amount of "Power" to work with and sometimes it just ain't enough to produce a good "Fat" spark across the gap.if it's too wide. You fix the gap and chances are you will fix the problem!
